Mission
The mission of the Human Resources office is to provide a professional and responsive approach to Public Safety Services' human resources needs in the program areas of policies and procedures, benefits administration, classification and compensation, employee administration, and human resources-related training and development.

- How do I apply for a job?

- Am I required to take a test before applying for a vacancy?
Some positions do require written examinations. You can obtain a complete listing of these classifications on the Louisiana State Civil Service web site.
- Are resumes accepted to apply for a vacancy?
No. All Civil Service applicants must create a job profile on the civilservice.la.gov web site and complete the application process through that site. Although resumes can be attached to a created profile, information that is not included in the application will not be considered when determining minimum qualifications.

- May an employee be placed on LWOP if his/her request for annual leave is not approved in advance (i.e., call in, running late or unscheduled need to take off)?
Yes, an employee may be placed on LWOP for any unapproved absence.
- How do I apply for FMLA?
To apply, please complete the FMLA Request form and appropriate FMLA Certification form. These forms can be found in policy management site, Power DMS, in the Chapter 6 Appendix of the DPS Policies and Procedures Manual. Upon completion, please submit the FMLA Request form through your chain-of-command, and the FMLA Certification form to the DPS-FMLA inbox at

Onboarding
As a new hire with the department, you must complete onboarding forms in order to be hired as an employee, be given an employee personnel number, and be given access to LEO, training, and any systems relevant to your position.
