Mission
To provide effective management and support services in an efficient and professional manner to all agencies within Public Safety Services and to public and private entities.
Philosophy
The Department of Public Safety will continue to focus on public safety policies that increase safety for the citizens of Louisiana. The Department and its agencies will be accountable for public safety dollars that the state spends and will strive to implement proven, cost-effective policies and programs directed toward improving public safety outcomes

Undersecretary
Paula Tregre has devoted nearly 30 years to public service. She holds a bachelor's degree in Finance and earned a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She joined the Department of Public Safety in 2000 as a member of the Budget Services Team.
In 2015, Paula moved to the Division of Administration’s Office of State Procurement. She was appointed as the State Procurement Director and Chief Procurement Officer in 2016, overseeing more than $1.5 billion in annual procurement activity and leading statewide modernization, policy, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
Paula was also involved in the National Association of State Procurement Officers (NASPO), serving on national committees, participating in national conferences, and being elected to NASPO’s Board of Directors.
She returned to the Department of Public Safety in 2021 as the Budget Director and was promoted in 2025 to Deputy Undersecretary for the Office of Management and Finance. In that role, she led Finance, Budget, Human Resources, Support Services, Facility Services, and Internal Audit, overseeing administrative operations supporting approximately $1 billion in annual revenue and expenditures.
Paula Tregre now serves as Undersecretary, bringing extensive experience in financial management, procurement leadership, and executive administration to the Department of Public Safety.
