Insurance Information

New, full-time employees have 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in health insurance coverage and/or life insurance coverage through the Office of Group Benefits. The Office of Group Benefits (OGB) is the state agency authorized by state statute to provide health and life coverage to eligible employees of the State of Louisiana. Employees are eligible if their employment status is considered full-time.

As part of the regulations of the Affordable Care Act, employees must either enroll in health insurance, or if they choose, waive coverage as a new hire. If coverage is waived employees will not be able to enroll later decide unless there is a qualifying OGB event OR until OGB Annual Enrollment which typically runs from October through mid-November of each year with an effective date of January 1 of the following year.

An additional way to enroll in health coverage is through the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace. Please read carefully the notice below titled “ACA Marketplace Notice” for more information. Please note that coverage offered through the Marketplace is independent of any coverage offered through OGB.

For information about health plans offered through OGB, premium rates for the various plans, events that are deemed qualifying for making changes to insurance, flexible benefits offered, documentation to submit if enrolling dependents, life insurance offered through OGB, etc., please contact the Office of Group Benefits at 1-800-272-8451 or visit their website at https://info.groupbenefits.org.
