Internal auditing is defined by the Institute of Internal Auditors as an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
IAD’s mission is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. IAD helps the department accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.
IAD adheres to the mandatory elements of The Institute of Internal Auditors' International Professional Practices Framework, which are the Global Internal Audit Standards and Topical Requirements. The Audit Director reports to the Deputy Secretary and Deputy Undersecretary regarding the internal audit function’s conformance with the Standards, which will be assessed through a quality assurance and improvement program.
Louisiana Revised Statute 36:8.2 requires all agencies with an annual budget of thirty million dollars or more to establish an internal audit function that conforms to the Institute of Internal Auditors’ International Professional Practices Framework.
The Audit Director reports functionally to the Deputy Secretary and administratively to the Deputy Undersecretary.
IAD has unrestricted access to all functions, records, property, and personnel pertinent to carrying out any engagement, subject to accountability and safeguarding of records and information.
