Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections
Colonel Robert P. Hodges, Deputy Secretary - Custodian of Records
The mission of Support Services is to support Public Safety Services in all matters related to safety and the preservation of property. In particular, Support Services provides a full range of operational services, including but not limited to acting as the insurance liaison for Public Safety Services, managing the reimbursement process for Public Safety Services disaster projects, providing facility and property management, reviewing construction project management, and overseeing warehouse supply operations.
The Property Management Department is responsible for overseeing the tracking, utilization, and disposal of all state-owned movable assets, including furniture, equipment, and other tangible items not permanently affixed to real property. The department ensures compliance with state regulations by maintaining accurate inventory records, conducting regular audits, and implementing standardized procedures for asset transfers, surplus declarations, and disposals. By working closely with internal divisions and external vendors, the department promotes cost-effective procurement, extends asset life cycles through proper maintenance, and reduces waste through reuse and redistribution programs. Its efforts support transparency, accountability, and the efficient use of public resources across all agency operations.
The Facility Services section is responsible for maintaining the buildings and infrastructure across the DPS Campus. This team ensures that all facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained to support daily operations. Their work includes routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements to heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as general upkeep of building interiors and exteriors. Facility Services plays a crucial role in creating a clean, efficient, and comfortable environment for staff and visitors.
The Mail Room plays a vital role in maintaining efficient operations across the Department of Public Safety Campus. It is responsible for receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing mail. In addition to handling mail, the Mail Room also acts as the central receiving point for deliveries and shipments, ensuring that all items are properly logged and directed to the appropriate personnel. It pulls supply orders from stock and prepares them for delivery to various divisions, supporting daily operations and logistics across the agency and the state. This department serves as a key hub for communication and supply distribution within the organization.
The Capital Outlay section is responsible for the Capital Outlay Program for all DPS agencies. The Director serves as the liaison and coordinator for DPS agency representatives by overseeing plan development, implementation, and subsequent monitoring of statewide projects for the Department in House Bill 2. This includes, but is not limited to, Department of Public Safety Headquarters, the Office of Motor Vehicle field offices, the Louisiana State Police Troops, and the State Fire Marshal field offices.
The goal of the DPS safety program is to prevent personnel injury and loss or damage to property. Results are achieved by planning all work assignments around known hazards, reviewing pertinent policies and guidelines, and utilizing safe work practices. Every employee must accept responsibility for their personal safety as well as the safety of co-workers. Supervisory personnel must eliminate or control hazards within their workspaces. The personal safety and health of each employee are of primary importance.
